Sire:  Arnie de Burgh’s sire, Amfortas is a descendent of top sire Northern Dancer (through one of the greatest ever flat racers, Nijinsky) and the outstanding middle distance horse, Mill Reef (through Derby winner Shirley Heights). Racing Post’s view of Amfortas is “high-class, lightly raced 12f performer, has sired fair performers from few chances”.

Dam:  His dam, Align, is out of Affirmation by Tina’s Pet, who Racing Post consider to have been a “highclass sprinter” and who sired both flat and jump winners. Align was half-sister to 10f 4yo Listed winner Arriving and also raced, winning as a 3 year old over 8f, before becoming a broodmare. Arnie was her first foal.

Damsire:

Arnie’s damsire is Petong who was by the American Thoroughbred, Mansingh. Petong sired Euro Stakes winners, many flat winners as well as some jump winners.

Performance

Bred by Wyck Hall Stud, Arnie de Burgh was purchased at Tattersalls as a foal and shown in hand as a yearling and two year old, prior to going into training.  He was shown under the name I'll Be Back, but this name was already taken when he was registered for racing so he became Arnie de Burgh.

As a yearling, he was placed 2nd at Suffolk County Show in the Small Riding Horse class and the same at the Royal Norfolk Show.  As a 2 year old he was once again 2nd at Suffolk in the Small Riding Horse Two and Three year old class.  He then competed in the Sport Horse Loose Jumping Two Year Olds at the East of England Show where he beat a large class of bigger horses by impressing the judges with his style and conformation (see picture left).

One week after winning the Loose Jumping class, Arnie went into training, where for a small, inexpensive horse, he excelled.  From a total of 16 races between December 2004 and May 2006, Arnie won 3 and had one 2nd and two 3rd placings; winning nearly £10,000 in prize money.

Arnie returned home in Autumn 2006 and was presented at the 2006 SPSS grading where he was the Champion Stallion.  Since then, Arnie was Hack and Riding Horse winner at Suffolk County 2008 and is now Eventing and Show jumping

Offspring/Breeding Advice

Arnie's first foal was born 2008 and was a winner as a foal at Suffolk County, South Suffolk and 1st or 2nd every other outing and in BEF evaluations gained 1st premium.

2 foals from his 2009 crop went forward for BEF Futurity evaluations and both gained 1st premiums and were also placed at all County shows.

In 2010, another two foals got 1st premiums.
