Hilken’s Black Delight is one of the most exciting German Riding Pony stallions available in Europe today.  He combines exceptional gaits, conformation and rideability, with a great talent for jumping, making him an ideal stallion for the production of both top class dressage and jumping ponies.

Hilken’s Black Delight became the Champion of the 2005 Weser-Ems Stallion Licensing, receiving both high praise from the licensing committee and standing ovations from the crowd. There he was described as being “as close to perfection as possible” and became the first pony stallion ever to be invited to the Oldenburg Stallion Parade.

In 2007, he became Reserve Champion for 4-6 year old pony stallions at the National Stallion Show in Berlin, and Champion riding pony at Höven with an overall score of 8.7 (no score under 8 and three 9s).  He also became the Weser-Ems State Champion for 4 year old riding ponies with a final score of 8.8, beating 34 other ponies.

In November 2007, Black Delight won his 30 day performance test with the overall score of 8.71.  He scored 10 from the guest rider and was particularly praised for his jumping, both X-country and over show jumps.  Presented at the Hanoverian and Weser-Ems stallion shows in February 2008, Black Delight wowed the audience with his fabulous presence and showed off his winter dressage training by popping in a few perfect flying changes.

Qualification plans for the Bundeschampionate in 2008 were put on hold after a driving accident in June and Black Delight had to be content with retiring to stud for the rest of the season.

In March 2009, Black Delight became champion of the 6 - 9-year-old stallions in Weser-Ems.  He found a new Partner in Christin Scheel, an inexperienced young pony rider, and in June qualified for the 2009 Bundeschampionate, where he narrowly missed out on a place in the Final.

Later in 2009, he was sold to France, where he will stand at stud, as well as continuing to compete.  We are continuing our arrangement on an exclusive basis with Haras du Feuillard, and are excited to be able to offer Black Delight chilled as well as frozen until further notice.  This is a wonderful opportunity to take advantage of this stallion with excellent terms and as the offer of chilled semen may not be open in the future once he begins his competitive career in France, should be taken as soon as possible!

Finally, in 2009 3 sons have been licensed, 2 of them at Weser-Ems with one following in his father’s footsteps by becoming licensing champion!

Hilken’s Black Delight’s pedigree combines some of the best lines in German Riding Pony breeding.  His sire, Branduardi M, was the winner of his Stallion Licensing, as well as of his Stallion Performance Test, with a final score of 8.85.  He later became Vice Bundeschampion and was the highest earning pony in sport of all 4 to 6 year olds at that time in Germany, being successful up to FEI-level dressage and jumping classes level L (about 4'2).  He was then sold to Denmark, where he immediately became a member of the national pony dressage team.

Black Delight's dam, St Pr St Syrah won the Weser-Ems Elite Mare Show in 2001, proclaiming her as the best mare of her year.  She qualified for the Bundeschampionat as a 3, 4 and 6-year-old and was Reserve Champion of her Mare Performance Test, beaten by her younger half-sister, Sophie. Syrah was successful up to FEI-dressage level, L-level jumper classes (about 4'2) and won the Weser-Ems Eventing Championships in 2004. This dam line has produced many licensed stallions, State Premium mares and successful sport ponies.

Progeny:

Hilken’s Black Delight produced an excellent and highly regarded first foal crop in 2007, having been very popular during his first season at stud. His foals were highly decorated at the studbook inspections, with several qualifying for the Foal Championships in Lienen.

His first foal to be born in the UK, Brandini (born 2007 and pictured below left), is remarkable for his strength, fantastic topline, conformation, character, and promising gaits.  He was awarded a foal premium by the Oldenburg/Weser Ems Inspection committee during their tour of the UK in October 2007.

His second UK foal, Zack (born in 2008 and pictured below right), was also awarded a foal premium in the 2008 Oldenburg inspection tour of the UK.

In 2009/10 stallion licensings three sons have been licensed, two of them at Weser-Ems, one following in his father’s footsteps by becoming licensing champion!

Black Delight is in demand in Australia and America, as well as many European countries.
