Fence 4 AB - Nei paddocks (In the paddocks)

The photo shows the ideal line, so jumping both fences on the diagonal.  The first fence on the course to cause any issues, with Annie Kamieth (GER) & Mr Harvey stopping at Part A and Julia Elzanowska (POL) & Spinway Memento (pictured) stopping at Part B.

Fence 5 - Catasta (Log pile)

The only issue at this seemingly straight forward fence was a fall from Urban for Anne Groot Koerkamp (NED) after Urban tried to run around the fence and got tangled in the string marking the course.

Chiara Gorini (ITA) & Zebedee

Fence 6 AB - Giardino dell'angolo (Garden corner)

Part A

Part B

Part B - on a right hand curve from Part A, so inviting a run out to the left.  However, only Nessa Briody (IRL) & Rathnaleen Dark Secret did this.

Marie Gagneux (FRA) Plume de Virey

Libby Seed (GBR) & Mr Vick

Julian Wippermann GER) & Chessy

Fence 7 - Grosso tronco (Big log)

The only problem at this fence was for Julian Wippermann (GER) & Chessy 18 who hit the fence hard and fell.

Emma Pasqualini (ITA) & Fine and Smart vd Langenheuvel

Fence 10 - Splash

Maria Sole Girardi (ITA) & Loughtown Lass

Fence 11 ABC - Montagne russe (Roller coaster)

A log, down the slope, over an open ditch and up again to a skinny log on the turn

Jorich Spits(BEL) & Galinka

One of the problem areas on the course with Sabrina Zurheiden (GER) & Daja Sai stopping at the ditch (Part B) and both Annie Kamieth (GER) & Mr Harvey and Isabella Riedi (SUI) & Pins de Soulac needing 2 attempts at Part C.

Fence 15 - Il ponte di Gianni (Gianni's bridge)

The most dramatic fence on the course actually caused no problems either directly at the fence and as there were no problems either at the next fence, it had no influence on that one either.

Julia Elzanowska (POL) & Spinway Memento

Isabella Riedi (SUI) & Pins de Soulac

Nele Revyn(BEL) & Orchid S Corlando

Patrick Dennehy (IRL) & Rose Down

This was the last of the fences in the main field area and did not cause any problems.

Rebecca Gerold (AUT) & Jorrit

Mathieu Bauduin (FRA) & Leaden Fionn d'Argoat

Fence 18 - Carriola (Wheelbarrow)

The sandbags in the corner of the photo and the fence line to the right dictated the jumping line.

Situated off the track on the way along the edge of the site to the main arena for the last fences, there were no issues at this fence.

Mette-Rise Christiansen (DEN) & Camelot Damgaard

Fence 19 AB - Il lago del Boccaccio (Boccaccio's lake)

The direct route - one jumping effort into the water then through the water on a left bend

Showing the drop into the water from the direct route (front) compared with the longer alternative

The alternative (long) route involved jumping the log in the background  (A) first then looping right round before going into the water at the smaller drop in foreground (B)

Part A of the long route.  Although much further, some riders did opt to jump this log on dry land before looping round to the smaller drop in to the water

Fence 20 - Dopo il lago (After the lake)

A corner on a left hand curved line after coming out of the water and with 4 ponies stopping, the most problematic fence on the course.

Mai Kaas (DEN) & Oestbos Todo (pictured below), Mette Rise Christiansen (DEN) & Camelot, Cira Gorini (ITA) & Zebedee and Julia Elzanowska (POL) & Spinway Memento all had refusals at this fence and Julia & British bred Spinway Memento were eliminated as it was their 3rd refusal on the course.

Fence 21 - L'onda di Benoit (Benoit's wave)

A straightforward fence at the top of a steep slope with the ground then sloping away on landing.  There were no problems at this fence.

Yfke Bourget (FRA) & Djaipour

Fence 22 AB - Banchina dell'anfora (Anphora's bank)

Side view showing the alternative Part B in the foreground and the direct route behind

The direct route, up the step the over the roll top.  Gerdine Frens (NED) fell from Montignac du Vi at Part B

The alternative Part B - only likely to be used if a pony has stopped at the roll top

Rose Nesbit (GBR) & Carrowmore Gemstone

Fence 23 - Mira al centro! (Aim to the centre!))

A typical "skinny" fence, it caused problems for Isabella Riedi (SUI) & Pins de Soulac and Cira Gorini (ITA) & Zebedee with the later being eliminated as they also had 2 refusals at fence 20.

Fence 24 - Carro del vino (Wine wagon)

The final fence with impressive, larger than life, topiary horse, followed by a short run to the finish line (under the blue Arena Boccaccio arch).  The only ones to have an issue were Mette Rise Christiansen (DEN) & Camelot who had 2 refusals and got eliminated as they'd also stopped at fence 20.
