Jumping Update

Sadly, the day got off to a poor start for the British Jumping Team when team veteran Aroldo, ride of Scarlett Charles, who had been asked to represent in front of the Ground Jury and vet at 7am (along with a number of other jumping & dressage ponies) failed the re-inspection and so he can take no part in the competition.  Our commiserations to Scarlett and we hope that Aroldo is back to normal again soon.  Two Swedish jumping ponies are also out of the competition.

Dressage Report

With a number of ponies, including 2 from the German team, having to be re-presented to the Ground Jury at 7am, the day started early for them.  Thankfully, all were fine this time so all could prepare for the start of the Team Competition at 12 noon.

GB were drawn 5th in the team order, followed immediately by the Netherlands, then 5 more teams before Germany had the coveted last slot.

The standard was set early on when the 3rd rider in, Sara Aagaard Hyrm (DEN) & Der Harlekin B (Golden Dancer x Dornik B) scored an impressive 72.846% to take the lead.  No one had bettered this by the time Isobel Berrington (GB) & DHI Langar (Lukas x Downland Folklore) entered the arena.  To everyone British supporters' delight, they pulled off a personal best score in this test at an International show, gaining 70.667% and going into 2nd place.  A few slight mistakes from the first Dutch rider kept her behind Isy and it was only the first German rider Helen Erbe & S FS Charly Brown (FS Champion de Luxe x Fs Don't Worry) who got ahead, scoring 72.513%.  So with the first rider having gone for all teams, it was Denmark, Germany, GB then Netherlands.

Denmark then consolidate their position with their next rider Louise Christensen & Vegelins Goya (Verona's Bo-GI x Leunsveld's Darling Boy) scoring 73.487% to take the lead.  Again, no one troubled the leaders until the turn of GB's Clare Hole & SPSS Elite graded stallion Rembrandt DDH. With a good number of 8s throughout the test, but particularly in the canter, and their lowest mark a single 6, their score of 71.667% took them into 4th place, just ahead of Isy & Langar.  With the next rider, Zoe Kuintjes (NED) & Elin's Noncisdador (Nostradamus x Lp Nixen) scoring 70.026% so slotting in below Isy & Langar in the order, GB were fairly confident of finishing the day ineither Bronze or Silver place - depending on the score of the last of the day's riders, Germany's Linda Erbe & Dujardin B (Deinhard B x Danny Black).  14 year old Linda is the twin sister of the first German rider, Helen Erbe, and sibling rivalry maybe played a part in her out scoring her sister with 73% which was good enough for 2nd place.

So at the end of the first part, with 2 riders having competed for each of the main teams, GB is in 3rd place in the team rankings, behind expected leaders Germany who are surprisingly in 2nd place as the Danish team have performed very well and have the overnight lead.  The Netherlands, are in 4th place, then come Belgium, Sweden and Austria.  However, with the top 3 scores to count and all teams expected to have their strongest riders competing on Day 2, the current team positions are only an indication.  Individually, Clare is in 5th place and Isy is in 6th - a fantastic start to the competition for GB.
