Tornado af Knabstrup was bred in Denmark by Tania Mortensen and imported into the UK as a 2 year old.  He graded with the KNN in October 2007 and was granted a breeding licence for 2008. In 2011, Tornado passed his performance test and consequently is now life graded with both the KNN and ZfDP.

Tornado was first graded with KNN in 2007 where he gained his breeding approval and was best 3 year old stallion. Tornado’s grand sire Baron aus der Schutzend Hand and Tornado’s uncle, Boxter aus der Schutzend Hand stand at The Royal Court Riding School in Buckenburg, Germany where they regularly perform airs above the ground and high school for visitors, they have also performed in many displays around Germany including the World Equestrian Games in Aachen in 2006 as well as being used in film productions. Tornado’s sire Baldur aus der Schutzend Hand was sold to Denmark where he stands at a Danish Classical Riding School where he regularly demonstrates to visitors the art of the classical high school as well as being part of a stallion quadrille!

Tornado was lightly backed during 2010 and has begun his modern training. He has now started competing BD as well as competing for the Riding Clubs. As he is ideally bred for the high school we are looking to move more towards classical training in future years where he can show the Knabstruppers great ability to collect and ‘sit’ both in competition and at stallion parades.

In 2011, Tornado started competing seriously and by May had qualified for the the Southwest Dressage Championships, Trailblazer National Championships and Badminton Dressage Championships.  Tornado is pictured on the left competing at the 2011 Hickstead Dressage Masters Final.

Tornado has a superb temperament, due to his baroque type, he will find collection easy. He is a very versatile stallion and would suit many types of mares, especially those who struggle with collection. He so far has 2 foals out of TB mares and 1 from a Welsh D cross, all showing outstanding temperaments, conformation and movement. The Great British Circus are also expecting a foal this year by Tornado as well as foals out of a New Forest pony and a British Warmblood.
