Sire:

Hilkens Gold Card (who is known as "Gold") was purchased in Germany by Josephine Eley (Nibeley Stud), from the world renowned Hilkens Stud, breeders of numerous top flight competition ponies. As a young pony he was produced under-saddle for dressage but also showed that he possesses an exceptional jump, being awarded 8.5 for this at his grading.  Gold's very impressive pedigree contains many of the ‘greats’ and producers in international competition pony terms – Golden Dancer, Oakley Bubbling Bobbety (renamed Valentino), Downland Folklore, Brillant (formerly Benedict of Piran) and Black Boy.  He is closely related to numerous international ponies and his maternal half-brother, the graded stallion Hilkens Denali, is a successful competition pony in Australia.

Gold's sire, FS Golden Highlight was champion stallion at his grading then gained three 10s in his performance test. A double Bundeschampion (at 3 and 4 years old), he became Champion at the Federal Championship. In 2003, FS Golden Highlight won all his classes to become International Supreme Champion at the International Welsh Show in Aachen. A very successful stallion, he has 23 licensed sons and 11 State Premium daughters in Germany and has sired Bundeschampionat finalists, successful competition ponies including the international driving pony, Joldis Giuseppe, dressage pony Gentleman 207 and jumping pony Brantops Glam Rock.

Gold's dam, the State Premium mare Schamila was placed fourth at the Vechta Elite Mare Show, won her Mare Performance Test and has produced a number of premium foals. Her sire, Black Boy, is the sire of nearly 20 German licensed stallions and 13 State Premium Mares. He was Reserve Champion of his Performance Test in 1987 with a score of 8.1 and in 1992 he was Champion stallion of the Weser-Ems Stallion Show. His sons include Branduardi M who was Champion of his licensing in 1998, Vicebundeschampion in 1999, Champion of his performance test in 2000, and sire of the 2005 Weser-Ems Stallion Licensing Champion, Hilkens Black Delight. Other sons include Barnabas, Reserve Champion Young Stallion in 1999, and Black Dancer, 2001 Stallion Show Champion.  He has sired 4 Champion Mares, including Golden Felina (full sister to Branduardi M) who was National Mare Champion in 1992 and 1996, and produced the licensed stallion and Bundeschampion Pilgrim's Red.

Dam:

Hilkens Georgia is the full sister of the German Licensed stallion and dressage pony Hilkens Black Dream. Her dam, Gilda, is also the dam of another licensed stallion, Golden Sunday (by FS Golden Moonlight), and 4 other competition ponies in Germany.  Gilda is a daughter of the famous Brillant, one of the foundation sire's of the Weser-Ems studbook, siring 35 licensed sons and 23 State Premium mares. Graded by the SPSS in 2015, Georgia's daughter (Delaroche Gloriosa by the Lusitano, Samorim) also graded by the SPSS the same year, going into the Head Studbook having impressed the judges with her temperament, loose jumping, trot and rideability.

Damsire:

Hilkens Black Delight became the Champion of the 2005 Weser-Ems Stallion Licensing, receiving both high praise from the licensing committee and standing ovations from the crowd. There he was described as being “as close to perfection as possible” and became the first pony stallion ever to be invited to the Oldenburg Stallion Parade.  In 2007, he became Reserve Champion for 4-6 year old pony stallions at the National Stallion Show in Berlin, and Champion riding pony at Höven with an overall score of 8.7 (no score under 8 and three 9s).  He also became the Weser-Ems State Champion for 4 year old riding ponies with a final score of 8.8, beating 34 other ponies.  In November 2007, Black Delight won his 30 day performance test with the overall score of 8.71.  He scored 10 from the guest rider and was particularly praised for his jumping, both X-country and over show jumps.  Presented at the Hanoverian and Weser-Ems stallion shows in February 2008, Black Delight wowed the audience with his fabulous presence and showed off his winter dressage training by popping in a few perfect flying changes. Qualification plans for the Bundeschampionate in 2008 were put on hold after a driving accident in June and Black Delight had to be content with retiring to stud for the rest of the season.   In 2009 Black Delight became Champion of the 6 - 9-year-old stallions in Weser-Ems and with an inexperienced young pony rider qualified for the 2009 Bundeschampionate. He was sold to the Haras du Feuillard in France in 2009, where he became a highly successful & popular stallion.

Hilken’s Black Delight’s pedigree combines some of the best lines in German Riding Pony breeding. His sire, Branduardi M, was the winner of his Stallion Licensing, as well as of his Stallion Performance Test, with a final score of 8.85. He later became Vice Bundeschampion and was the highest earning pony in sport of all 4 to 6 year olds at that time in Germany, being successful up to FEI-level dressage and L-level jumping classes (about 4’2). He was then sold to Denmark, where he immediately became a member of the national pony dressage team.  Black Delight's dam, St Pr St Syrah won the Weser-Ems Elite Mare Show in 2001, proclaiming her as the best mare of her year.  She qualified for the Bundeschampionat as a 3, 4 and 6-year-old and was Reserve Champion of her Mare Performance Test, beaten by her younger half-sister, Sophie. Syrah was successful up to FEI-dressage level, L-level jumper classes (about 4'2) and won the Weser-Ems Eventing Championships in 2004. This dam line has produced many licensed stallions, State Premium mares and successful sport ponies.  Morbidelli is a great grandson of one of Germany’s best pony-producing Anglo-Arabs, the famous Matcho AA, who was particularly known as an excellent mare producer, making them “pretty, black and rideable”.

2018 SPSS Southern Region Stallion Grading Champion

By kind permission of Qorum Photos

In 2015, Delaroche Black Gold was one of only 4 foals in that year to be awarded a much coveted SPSS GOLD Premium, impressing the judges and receiving comments such as ‘correct, well moving foal with uphill tendency & freedom in the paces’, ‘very pleasing correct foal’ and ‘very good head & neck’. Retained by his breeder until he was 3 years old, he was sold to his current owner on Christmas Eve 2017.

In his first year with his current owner, he achieved a Higher First at the BEF Futurity in the Dressage category at Catherston in July then went on to be the Futurity Champion Pony at the British Breeders Network Futurity Championship in Sept at Moreton Morrell competing against ponies that had been awarded Elite at their Futurity grading. Also in September 2018, he was the Southern Region Champion at his SPSS Stallion grading.

Has scores of 70%+ at Novice level and will be competing at Elementary level this season and working towards Medium level this year. Enjoys jumping and is careful with a good technique.
