Dougal was bred in Ireland by the Curran family. His bloodlines include many of Ireland’s most famous Connemara performance stallions that have produced many top class international ponies for all disciplines.

Sire:

Coosheen Stormboy is a grandson of the world famous Ashfield Bobby Sparrow who won individual gold at the Pony European Show Jumping Championships and has sired many international jumping ponies. Coosheen Stormboy's most recent successful offspring is Laburnum Ineer who represented Ireland at the 2014 European Pony Eventing Championships jumping double clear, finishing in 19th place. He also won the CNCP** at Kilguilkey and was 5th in the CCIP* at Tattersalls. Ineer's damsire is also Dougal's grandsire.

Dam:

Mountross Colleen was a prolific winner in hand and her offspring have inherited her looks and movement.

Damsire:

Coral Star is by the Grade A jumping pony Cuchulainn, winner of the stallion class at Clifden. He also goes back to the Sparrow lines as well as having the renowned Abbeyleix Owen in his breeding

Glencarrig Dolphin (known as "Dougal") proved his exceptional ability with an outstanding first competitive Eventing season in 2014 when only a 4 year old, culminating in a top ten placing in the very competitive British Eventing 4 year old Championships at Osberton ridden by Nicola Baguley.

Due to his stud duties he was only lightly competed in 2015 but again proved what an exceptional pony he is when winning at BE100 level. In 2016 he had 40 mares but still managed to have a very successful competition season, again winning at BE100 level and being placed in his first BE Novice.

2017 & 2018 saw eventing fitted round his busy stud duties but he completed 4 Novices in 2017, jumping clear cross country rounds in all of them. Then Nicola's daughter (then aged just 12) started competing him mid 2018 as she had her eyes firmly set on him as her future FEI Event pony.  He also attended the prestigious, invitation only Badminton Horse Trials Stallion Parade in May 2018.  He has also shone at the Connemara Performance Days winning the Open Dressage, Show Jumping, Combined Training and One Day Event.

In 2019, Dougal and Lucy were 4th in their first Novice level class together - the Aston-le-Walls Pony Trial - and these are always competitive classes. They were also 2nd and 7th in Open Novice Under 18s classes and 5th in the Frickley Park National Under 18 Championships at BE100 level.

The 2020 eventing season was limited and no team was sent to the Pony Euros that year, but in their 5 competitions between August and the end of the year they finished within the top 10 each time.

In 2021 they were 3rd in the Cirencester Park CCI-S 2* Ponies; 13th at the Belsay International CCI-S 2* British Pony Championships and then finished the season in style with a 3rd place at the Blair Castle International CCI*-Intro.

Then in 2022, all the years of work by Nicola and Lucy paid off when following consistent scores in the Pony Trials (including a 2nd place in the final trial at Belsay International), 2nd place in the Cirencester  Park CCI-S 2* Ponies and in the Belsay nternational British Pony Champioships, they were selected to represent GB at the 2022 Pony European Championshipw where there helpp team GB to 4th palce and finished 16th individually, just adding some XC time penalties to their dressage score.

Dougal was sold to Tivoli Stud in early 2023 and is now being ridden by Elizabeth Jelfs.  They won their fist outing, a BE100Open (required to qualify as a combination for Novice) then were 3rd at the Lincolnshire Pony Trial.

Offspring/Breeding Advice

Dougal is a very versatile stallion and is ideal to cross with any type of mare. He is bred to jump and this together with his amazing temperament should produce exciting children’s competition ponies as well as Eventers for the more serious competitors, when used on larger mares.  At his grading they commented on his “very correct way of going”, his “good rideability, willingness and rhythm”.

Dougal has been tested as Negative for HWSD and is also Negative for the creme gene. He is homozygous black so will not produce chestnut foals.

He has tested negative for Hoof Wall Separation Disease (HWSD) so cannot pass this on.
