He has proven himself to be a fantastic stallion and a real stock getter, every foal stamped with his exceptionally beautiful head and frame. Orlando was purchased from Ynyslyns Stud as a yearling by Bianca Hill, who says that she "fell head over heels in love with his type, nature and breeding, with a major plus being his colour! We felt he could offer something to the horse world, fill a niche that perhaps wasn't being filled before."
Orlando is WPCS licensed and is graded with the SPSS, being the 2019 Central Stallion Grading Champion and Reserve Supreme Champion overall 2019 graded stallions. He was also the first Section D in AES history to be graded with the society. At both gradings he gained fabulous marks but the stand out would have to be 9s and 10s for his jumping ability and an 8.75 for his canter work.

Orlando is an exceptionally trainable stallion who is worth his weight in gold with a temperament to die for. Before circumstances forced him to be out of work for 18 months (until mid 2019) he was specialising in dressage and competing at Preliminary and Novice level in British Dressage competitions (gaining 12 points at Novice and 6 at Prelim in less than a year) and Elementary unaffiliated.
In 2020 and 2021, he resumed his dressage career, with 3 scores over 70% at Novice with 2 different riders, qualifying for the Codham Park Equestrian Novice Gold Winter Regional Championship in May 2021 where he was 6th ridden by a 13 year old girl. |
Offspring/Breeding Advice | |
As Orlando stands at 15hh, it makes him an attractive prospect because he is slightly bigger than average cob size. He is not your traditional Section D and because of that he is able to offer bone and substance to the likes of a TB or Warmblood mare, but also, with his beautiful dished head and lighter frame, he is able to refine the more traditional D mare. A huge selling point for him is obviously his ability to produce a dilute foal. To a chestnut mare he guarantees to produce a palomino every single time. To bay and black mares he can produce buckskin, palomino and smokey black foals.
His previous owner, Bianca, said "I truly believe that Orlando is unique in many ways. He has shown his worth not just from the babies he has produced here at the stud for us but for the mare owners who have used him, many of them several times over! I believe that he is the ultimate all rounder producer.... The type of stallion that can sire a foal who can go out and do a nice medium dressage test on Saturday and a 1.10m sj course on Sunday. The type of horse that you can leave out without a rug on in the rain and its not going to have melted away or become a major drama queen because you've dared to leave it out over night. The type that are intelligent and willing to learn and place implicit trust in you as their owner and rider. Who wouldn't want that? Then to top it off... All of that in a beautiful golden colour package. What more could there be?"
His first progeny were born in 2014 and are noted for inheriting his great temperament and having substance and ability.
