LE Chiffre & Lara Kuropatwa

Winners of the FEI Pony Individual Test at the 2014 Myerscough Premier League

LE Chiffre has top German bloodlines combining those of his sire, the SPSS Elite stallion, Caesar 171, with his dam's classic ancestry (including Donnerwetter, Dancer and Kaprice as well as TB and Trakehner lines).

In 2013, aged only just 6 years, LE Chiffre became the first SPSS passported pony to compete Internationally when he and Chloe Vell competed for GB in the FEI Pony classes at the 2013 Hickstead CDI.  This earned him the prestigious ELITE accolade from the SPSS as well as the 2013 Dancer Medal.

After excellent international results in 2014, LE Chiffre and his new rider, Lara Kuropatwa, were named as Reserves for the 2014 GB Pony European Dressage Championships Team.  Then in 2016, Lara was selected for the 2016 Pony Euros team with LE Chiffre and they went on to be the only British combination to score over 70% in each of the tests.

Sire:

Caesar 171 is graded Elite with the SPSS in recognition of his International competition record as a member of the GB Pony Team that won Silver at the European Championships in Germany in 2000 and the Bronze medal winning team in 2002. Despite his competition career taking precedence for many years, he is also a successful sire with graded sons and daughters in Germany and is damsire of the Reserve Bundeschampion in 2008 & 2009.  In the UK he has sired SPSS graded sons and daughters, International Dressage ponies (LE Chiffre, Cruz, Rosewater I Claudius and Ella) and the 2013 Young Dressage Pony Champion (Cruz).

Dam:

Tiger Lily is a Westfalian mare who graded into the SPSS Head Studbook in 2006 and then, with Peanut at foot, was Champion at the 2007 SPSS In-Hand Premium Show. Her dam, Eboli, has classic riding pony and Welsh ancestry from her sire, Nordstar, combined with Thoroughbred and Trakehner from her dam.

Damsire:

Donnerwetter is one of several graded sons of Kaprice, a State Premium Mare who, as a 3 year old, was Bundeschampion in 1990. Kaprice's other notable offspring include the 1999 30-Day Stallion Test Reserve Champion, De Vito (by Dressman I), who later represented GB at the Pony European Championships and the SPSS Elite sire Top Yellow (by Till The Champ).  Donnerwetter's sire is the highly acclaimed, Dancer, who was a fully graded and performance tested Rheinland pony.  Dancer was one of the first ponies to represent multiple nations at Pony FEI Level, winning Team Bronze for the Netherlands in 1993 and for Great Britain in 1997.  Dancer was also a top sire with another of his sons, Golden Dancer, being a multiple Gold medal winning International dressage pony.  Dancer's name appears in the pedigrees of many current International dressage ponies.

Lap of hour at the 2016 Pony Euros

LE Chiffre (known as Peanut) was awarded the Best British Bred Pony Foal at the British Breeding Awards Dinner in 2008.  He then successfully graded as a SPSS stallion at the Heart of England Equestrian Centre in October 2010 when he also passed his British Showjumping assessment.

Peanut was backed at the end of 2010 and, only 3 months later, he took part in the 2011 British Stallion Event where he rose to the occasion and the louder the music and clapping got the more he loved it.  Then, having had a training break over the summer, in October 2011, he did a couple of Novice tests "Hors Concors" to allow him to gain experience without pressure.

Peanut was based at Becky Moody's yard in 2012 and was trained by both his owner, Sam Brown, and test rider, Becky Moody.  In April 2012, Peanut made his competitive debut a winning one at Beaver Hall, Staffordshire. Competing in the British Dressage affiliated Elementary classes, Peanut was ridden by Becky Moody and scored an impressive 73% in his first class winning outright. He was then a little tired for the second test but he still scored 67.6% and placed 1st in the Open section (and 2nd overall).

Four days later, Peanut and Becky competed at Vale View and they again won the Open section in both classes with Peanut becoming more confident.  They scored 72.65% in one class (and were overall winners) and 67.2% in the other.  These results qualified him for the British Dressage Summer Regional Championships. Peanut is pictured above and to the left at the Vale View competition.

At the Regional Championships, Peanut and Becky warmed up by winning by winning the Open Section in his first ever Medium test and it was also only his 5th British Dressage competition.  They then competed in the Elementary Open Regional Championships and finished 2nd with 70.94%.  This great score qualified them for the prestigious Espayo Dressage National Championships in September.  At the National Championships, where Peanut was not only the only pony but was also the only entrant under 16hh and he was one of just two 5 year olds in the very competitive class of 34 combinations.

Peanut the completed 2012 by being the is being aimed at the Top 5 year old and Reserve Champion at the SPSS Young Dressage Pony Championships.

In 2013, aged 6 years, Peanut went into training with Chloe Vell and represented GB at the Hickstead International which gained him his ELITE status with the SPSS.

Peanut was awarded the 2013 SPSS Dancer Medal for his achievements, in particular, for being the first SPSS passported pony to represent GB and at only 6 years old

In March 2014, Peanut and his new rider, Lara Kuropatwa, won the Pony Individual Test at the Myerscough Premier League on a score of nearly 70%.  They then competed internationally for GB at Addington CDIPJY, Saumur CDIPJY and Compiegne CDIPJY and they scored 73.2% in the Pony Freestyle in Saumur to place 4th then scored 72.94% in Compiegne for another 4th place.  As a result, Lara and Peanut were named as Reserves for the 2014 GB Pony European Dressage Championships Team.

Lara and Peanut remained together for the 2015 season and continued to compete internationally before Peanut was given a break to enable frozen semen to be collected and stored.  Later in 2015 Peanut was gelded to focus on his international career, returning to competition in February 2016.

In 2016, Lara and Peanut impressed the selectors by placing 7th in the Individual test at the Nieuw en Sint Joosland CDIP in April, placing 6th in the Kur at Saumur CDIOP (with 73%) before scoring over 70% in the team test at the Roosendaal CDIP in June.  Placing second in the compulsory final trial in early July resulted in Peanut and Lara securing a place on the 2016 British Team for the FEI Pony European Dressage Championships in Vilhelmsborg, Denmark.

At the 2016 Pony European Championships, Peanut was the highest placed British Pony combination overall placing 10th in the team test, 11th individually and 8th in the Kur, scoring over 70% in each class.

In 2017, with new rider Charlotte McDowell, Peanut again did well internationally and they were selected to compete for GB at the 2017 Pony Europeans. Very sadly though, having set off for the Championships in Hungary, Peanut was taken ill just before the ferry journey and, when investigations showed that he had kidney stones, he had to be withdrawn from the team and taken to the nearest equine vets for treatment.  Thankfully, Peanut has made a good recovery and successfully returned to competition in spring 2018 ridden by top pony rider Sophie Taylor.  Peanut subsequently moved to be ridden by Ruby Hughes, the young daughter of top dressage riders Gareth & Rebecca Hughes, who is also a talented vaulter - representing GB in the 2019 Senior European Vaulting Championships - aged just 11!

Offspring/Breeding Advice

LE Chiffre took a break from his very successful competition career in 2015 so that frozen semen could be collected and his first foal was born in 2016, to the delight of both the mare owner and Godrics Stud.

This filly foal, Blacklaws Vivacious Vesper, has been graded by 3 experienced Danish Knabstrupper judges (one of whom was a vet). Vesper's marks were 8 for type, 9 for frame, 9 for legs and 10 for walk trot and canter giving her an overall score of 9. As a result, Vesper won a KNN First Premium, was awarded Best Foal, Best Youngstock then Best in Show at the 2016 English KNN show. Blacklaws Vivacious Vesper was also evaluated by the SPSS and was awarded a coveted GOLD Premium

We are delighted with these results and excited to see more of his foals next year.

With his proven ability, wonderful paces and outstanding pedigree full of proven bloodlines, LE Chiffre is expected to suit a good range of mares.

Peanut is pictured below and right in January 2011 are LE Chiffre as a just backed rising 4 year old.
